Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake has taken delivery of the first article of an IDIQ government contract awarded to AMT to develop a next-generation flight threat simulator radar vehicle!
Miles from Death Valley, in a location where 120° summer heat is possible, air flow and reliable cooling capabilities are paramount. That is why AMT engineers ensured 30,000 BTUs of HVAC cool the electronics racks while installing a three-phase alternating generator for 20kW of output. Meanwhile, the cab is cooled via a rooftop air conditioning unit!
The new truck is based heavily on the Emmy Award Winning NBC Storm Ranger and employs a vertical lift table capable of elevating the radar unit up to 80” in the air while in motion!
When fully integrated by the Navy team, the truck will be able to simulate every conceivable threat an aircraft may encounter so they can develop countermeasures and train pilots. This new, innovative use of AMTs upfitting expertise has opened the gates to exciting avenues — the whole team is excited to explore the possibilities revealed by this revolutionary platform, the threat simulator radar!
